Frito Feet

I absolutely positively love the smell of my pup's paws. i love falling asleep to the scent and waking up to it! for me, it's right up there with puppy breath and fresh cut grass. i don't know if it's the equivalent to adoring the devine smell of say skunk or gasoline but i have to imagine someone out there being opposed and possibly even offend of my love of puppy feet!  Jonathan for one thinks I'm totally nutty when i purposefully lift up her paws and sniff, so i have been determined to find any evidence to prove my sanity.

Well, i came to find i am not alone. There is question after question  out there about why the smell of dog feet is so sweet.  Some say buttered popcorn,  some nachos or Doritos and there is even a term coined..."Frito feet".
Just like humans have colonies of bacteria and micro organisms living on their body's, it is the same with animals. Bacteria and yeast naturally reside on the skin of all animals. The feet of Dogs contain many hideaway spots, such as the areas between toes and the spaces between the foot pads. These areas are prone to increased levels of moisture and are not exposed to as much air circulation. This allows the bacteria and yeast to proliferate zealously. These micro-organisms give off odors. Because cats groom themselves more thoroughly than dogs, they are less likely to have foot odor. In particular, the naturally occurring and harmless yeast contribute to the slightly musty smell that tends to emanate from the pup's feet.

The smell is not harmful, nor does it mean the feet are infected.
Nor does this information make me any less likely to smell Pearl's paws.

tis the season...for tiffany's?

Today the UPS man kindly dropped off a package for me. I had no idea what was inside but it's always fun receiving something unexpected in the mail. When i realized it was my Clinique Christmas gift i was so excited! Clinique is by far the best company I have ever worked for. Everything they stand for and pride themselves on, their education programs, and spirit...not to mention how thoughtful they are and the fabulous gifts that accompany that.
Each year Clinique teams up with someone (ranging from Links of London  to Tiffany's & Co.) to create beautiful, specially made holiday gifts for the employees, and this year was no exception!!

one for one

i need to take a minute to express how much i love Tom's. not only do i love the shoes but the company too is momentous...not to mention that the founder is not so bad himself. Tom's started in 2006 by coming up with the simple yet brilliant idea to donate one pair of shoes, for every pair purchased. This is so important because young children can catch harmful diseases  just from standing in contaminated soil. They can also get serious infections from sores, or even not be able to attend school.
Since then they have even collaborated with Brands such as Ralph Lauren Polo Rugby shoes and Element Skateboards on their one for one program.  They have created numerous styles including wedges and wedding shoes using endless fabrics and colors. Recently they even released sequin shoes! too cute!

As of this fall 2010, over one million pairs have been donated to children in need...and that number just keeps growing.
So buy yourself or someone else some Tom's!

simple, yet so complicated

Chains are all the rage. from chain jewelry to chain shoes and bags. indeed it seems so easy, as if we could just go to the hardware store. but really each detail in these pieces and as a whole are thought out and artfully executed. I love the look of pairing a harsh,  chain necklace with a feminine top or dress.  I just ordered the Omne necklace from Gemma Redux and i can't wait until it gets here! Gemma is famous for their eccentric style and unique handmade pieces...  made of different metals and crystals. The omne in particular, can be worn  so many different ways, even as a bracelet or belt! I love the versatility. Awesome.

Vamp or Vampire?

Fall is here and that means trading in pale lip gloss for a deeper, richer, lipstick. I am happy to say that dark lips are back in a big way this season.
Some may argue it can't be worn off the runway and that blackberry lips are way too harsh for real-life, but I think they're hot.                                                                                                        While such a dramatic style can be intimidating, this look can definitely work off the red carpet (and on the sidewalk)… But pulling it off can be tricky. If done wrong, If the color feathers or is not applied flawlessly, it will look sloppy.

Some helpful hints to looking old Hollywood glam!

Don't go totally Goth
Be sure to pick your shade well. Consider your complexion and the undertones in your skin. While the striking look models wore on the Yves Saint Laurent fall 2008 runway was indeed dramatic (with her pale complexion, pure black pout and blunt dark bangs), the severe-looking style says vampire, not vampy. Remember, dark lipstick doesn't have to be black.

Exfoliate your lips.
This is easy to do and there are products specifically for this like Clinique's All about lips. However, a simple at home solution is when you brush your teeth, just gently brush your lips as well. This will remove dead skin cells and soften your lips. Make sure to smother on lip balm or moisturizer for added protection. My favorite is Palmer's Cocoa butter swivel-stick. I refuse to use anything else!

Don’t O.D. on products.
Keep your look simple-play up only one feature at a time. Wear minimal shadow and a touch of liner. Do pair a plum pout with bold brows and lots of mascara.

Use liner.
For rimmed lips minus the clownlike effect, outline your lips then feather in to fill. With a pointy Q-tip dipped in translucent powder before you apply the lipstick to help your darkest shades stay put. You can also use a nude or clear liner around the outside of your lips to keep the color from bleeding.

Well yes, Chanel is responsible for making goth lips chic in the Nineties. Last year the company revisited its dark side with three gorgeous new Rouge Allure lip colors. All are different variations of black: Obscure has brown undertones, Maniac a tinge of red, and my favorite of the three; Hysteria a hint of violet ($30)

This season, my favorites are Clinique After Party ($14), Black Raspberry from Bobbie Brown ($22), L'Oreal Paris Limited-Edition Lipstick in Berry Alluring ($9) MAC Viva Glam I ($14.50)
