Frito Feet

I absolutely positively love the smell of my pup's paws. i love falling asleep to the scent and waking up to it! for me, it's right up there with puppy breath and fresh cut grass. i don't know if it's the equivalent to adoring the devine smell of say skunk or gasoline but i have to imagine someone out there being opposed and possibly even offend of my love of puppy feet!  Jonathan for one thinks I'm totally nutty when i purposefully lift up her paws and sniff, so i have been determined to find any evidence to prove my sanity.

Well, i came to find i am not alone. There is question after question  out there about why the smell of dog feet is so sweet.  Some say buttered popcorn,  some nachos or Doritos and there is even a term coined..."Frito feet".
Just like humans have colonies of bacteria and micro organisms living on their body's, it is the same with animals. Bacteria and yeast naturally reside on the skin of all animals. The feet of Dogs contain many hideaway spots, such as the areas between toes and the spaces between the foot pads. These areas are prone to increased levels of moisture and are not exposed to as much air circulation. This allows the bacteria and yeast to proliferate zealously. These micro-organisms give off odors. Because cats groom themselves more thoroughly than dogs, they are less likely to have foot odor. In particular, the naturally occurring and harmless yeast contribute to the slightly musty smell that tends to emanate from the pup's feet.

The smell is not harmful, nor does it mean the feet are infected.
Nor does this information make me any less likely to smell Pearl's paws.

tis the season...for tiffany's?

Today the UPS man kindly dropped off a package for me. I had no idea what was inside but it's always fun receiving something unexpected in the mail. When i realized it was my Clinique Christmas gift i was so excited! Clinique is by far the best company I have ever worked for. Everything they stand for and pride themselves on, their education programs, and spirit...not to mention how thoughtful they are and the fabulous gifts that accompany that.
Each year Clinique teams up with someone (ranging from Links of London  to Tiffany's & Co.) to create beautiful, specially made holiday gifts for the employees, and this year was no exception!!

I have to say that i am pretty sure i have the freakin' cutest dog in the world. that's it. nothing else.  Not even that she is so sweet and cuddly and loves to play tug, eat socks and everything else and be a good puppy girl. Just that this lil Labradoodle  is so damn cute.

one for one

i need to take a minute to express how much i love Tom's. not only do i love the shoes but the company too is momentous...not to mention that the founder is not so bad himself. Tom's started in 2006 by coming up with the simple yet brilliant idea to donate one pair of shoes, for every pair purchased. This is so important because young children can catch harmful diseases  just from standing in contaminated soil. They can also get serious infections from sores, or even not be able to attend school.
Since then they have even collaborated with Brands such as Ralph Lauren Polo Rugby shoes and Element Skateboards on their one for one program.  They have created numerous styles including wedges and wedding shoes using endless fabrics and colors. Recently they even released sequin shoes! too cute!

As of this fall 2010, over one million pairs have been donated to children in need...and that number just keeps growing.
So buy yourself or someone else some Tom's!
